Beginning with the awe-inspiring balloon inflation, your sedate and mystical flight unfolds.
Having met at dawn, you will be driven in our 4-wheel drive vehicles to a suitable launch site chosen by one of our very experienced New Zealand licensed pilots.
Following a detailed flight briefing, you will then be invited to assist the pilot and crew to prepare the balloon for flight. Once aboard the wicker basket, your magical flight begins. The launch is so gentle you will hardly realise you have left the ground. The peace and gentleness of ballooning will surprise you and Methven flight views are unsurpassable. As you drift along with the breeze, the scenery slowly changes until, after approximately an hour in the air, it is time to land.
The successful completion of the flight is celebrated with a champagne-styled buffet breakfast, as a picnic in the field. You will also receive a flight certificate.
On a fine day views of the entire Canterbury Plains (a full 300km panorama) include pristine Mt Cook (Aoraki) and National Park mountains. Marvellous views abound of the Rakaia River, one of the world's finest braided river systems. Nestled well inland, the prevailing breeze from the Southern Alps gently ushers our flights out across the Plains, which are renowned for the many varieties of arable crops and sheep, deer, beef, dairy cattle, even llama, alpacas, and ostriches!

Q. Why do you go so early in the morning? A. We go just before dawn, this is when the weather is most sutibale & the wind is at its calmness.
Q. How long is the flight? A. The actual flight time is aroudn 1 hour.
Q. What is it like to fly in a Hot air balloon? A. Hot air ballooning is flaoting in a balloon in a secure basket which hardly moves, it`s so peaceful & quiet.
Q. How long does the experience go for? A. Allow around 4 hours for the experience
Q. Is it cold in the Hot air Ballooon? It is no colder than it is in the ground, so no special clothing is needed, we do require flat shoes & maybe a cap.
